VOLUME 2023            AUGUST 9         NUMBER 45

President Thad Hall called the General Membership meeting to order at noon on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2023.

President Hall welcomed members, introduced guest Daphne McNelly and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Heather Peterson introduced the program speaker, Daphne McNelly, marketing and communications specialist for Flint Hills Area Transportation Agency (ATA) bus.

McNelly said she has been in the job for three years. She described ATA bus services. There are five routes serving most of Riley County, some of Geary and Pottawatomie Counties. The Manhattan and Junction City routes have fixed schedules and pick-up locations. ATA provides door-to-door service for seniors, the disabled and those that live far from a bus stop. All buses are accessible for disabled. The basic fare is $1 per ride. The service is partly funded by the city of Manhattan but not to the extent of funding by some other cities such as Salina. Because of declining enrollment, K-State no longer supports ATA funding. ATA always is looking for drivers and they have flexible schedules. K-State football fans should consider taking ATA to football games this fall. There were a number of questions for her after her presentation.

The meeting adjourned with the Optimists Creed.
