The "Manhattan Optimist Club Bulletin": Vol. 2024 #35: 5-29-24
VOLUME 2024 May 29 NUMBER 35
President Bill Wisdom, welcomed everyone and gave us a nice reflection, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.ACHES & PAINS: Be kind to one another, you never know what others may be going through. Keep those suffering in your thoughts and prayers.
PROGRAM: This morning’s program was the 5th Wednesday MOC Business meeting. President Bill Wisdom shared the following “happenings” since the last business meeting.
We’ll always remember our members Bruce Spellman and Tom Claman who recently passed.
We welcomed 6 new members: Jean, Marlo, Tim, Jolene, Marc and Jerome.
We celebrate another Successful Spaghetti Dinner
We celebrated Bluemont, Northview, Amanda Arnold, Flint Hills Christian, Manhattan Catholic and Theodore Roosevelt Elementary “Youth of the Month” recipients.
Educated a new batch of young lawn care givers.
We honored Anvesha Sharda as our MHS Student of the Month.
Had a great response for the Optimist Park “workday”.
Assisted with a softball tournament held at Optimist Park.
Volunteered at the Special Olympics State Basketball event and the Bill Snyder Half Marathon event.
Enjoyed hearing the MHS IPS Class essays.
Had other great programs that included Matt Walters, our own Margaret Haden and we honored Sonia Gregoire as RCPD Officer of the Year.
Mike Fincham asked for a few more volunteers to help at the Juneteenth Celebration at the City Park on June 14th. We will be handing out water and talking to those attending the event. If you can help, please see Mike for more information.
Steve Boeckman and Greg McCune had a great discussion about the future of the Optimist Tree Lot, with this being the last year for Bruce Bidwell and Jim Franke being administrators, (THANK YOU FOR YOUR MANY, MANY YEARS OF WONDERFUL SERVICE AND HELP) it is time to seek new leaders. Duties will need to be broken down and we need people to step up into these roles. Marketing, ordering/receiving, set up/tear down and multiple other daily operations.
A committee has developed a survey that will go out to the membership in the very near future, we need honest opinions to see where we’ll stand at the end of this Tree Lot Season. Please fill out your survey and return it so we know where the majority stands and know if there are those that can/ will step into these positions. Bruce and Jim will be here this season to train for those positions. Again, Thank you both for all the long hours, dedication and hard work always!
There will be more discussion later on the Club Directory idea as well as the Presidential Rant! Feel free to let President Bill know how you feel at bwisdom@ksu.edu
