The Manhattan Optimist Club Memorial Scholarship

The Manhattan Optimist Club Memorial Scholarship was established July 14, 1987 in the amount of $5,000.
Purpose
The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to Manhattan High School (KS) graduates enrolled at Kansas State University who are children of present or past Optimists.
Source Of Funds
Funds to support this scholarship are to come from contributions in honor of deceased Optimists. It is the intent of the donors to endow the fund to the minimum investment level of $5000, per the investment policy of the Kansas State University Foundation. Until such time as the income from the endowed fund can support the scholarships, the Manhattan Breakfast Optimist Club will provide the award annually.
Amount
This scholarship will be a minimum of $250 annually.
Eligibility
This scholarship shall be awarded to any incoming freshman at Kansas State University, enrolled in any curriculum, who are graduates of Manhattan High School (KS). Preference shall be given to students who are children of present or past Optimists. Selection shall be based on demonstrated leadership, community and school involvement and public service. A minimum grade point average of 3.0 is required.
In all other respects, this scholarship shall be awarded without restriction to sex, race, handicap, religion or natural origin.
Manner & Time Of choice
The final choice of the recipient of this scholarship shall be made by the General Scholarship Committee of Kansas State University or its successor. Selection shall be made in the Spring of each year that funds are available for awarding to begin the following Fall.
Custody Of Funds
The Kansas State University Foundation agrees to act as custodian of all funds in connection with this scholarship, to manage the same to the best of its ability and to make the necessary scholars payments upon authorization by the Office of Student Financial Assistance.
Report To Donors
Upon selection each year, the Office of Student financial Assistance will notify the president of the Manhattan Optimist Club of the recipient of the scholarship so that the Optimist Club can recognize the recipient and provide background material.
